Dual World: Osito Monarch

DualWorld024.Osito Monarch

Osito Monarch is our farewell to winter. I took it during a walk around the neighborhood in late fall. I shot the first exposure on Monarch Drive because I liked the way the fallen leaves poked through the thin sheet of snow. I took the shot of Osito in front of the home of the Mayor of Hoffman Estates. He has some little wooden fences that make in interesting pattern to the top right of the frame. After development, I liked Osito’s blue blindfold and the way his hair looks like fog rising off the ground.

Dual World comes from W.E.B. DuBois’ concept of Double Consciousness. The title of the series is a play on the gaming term, dual wielding, for fighting with a weapon in each hand. The double exposure photos were made in-camera by shooting twice before advancing the film.

I get my color film developed at CSW Film Systems; the best kept secret in town.
