Bolting Lettuce at The Mumford Garden

When lettuce bolts, it’s beginning to flower in order to create seeds. Waiting until lettuce bolts results in a bitter harvest. You know that your lettuce starting to bolt when the stalk of the plant begins to elongate and it becomes unusually tall. Unfortunately, if you notice that this has begun to occur, you may already be too late.

We begin this garden video with the bitter tale of bolted lettuce and then move on to some of our successes, including beets, potatoes, tomatoes, zucchini and cucumber. We also give you a tour of some of the other garden plots around us and we share a carrot mishap as well.
